Description

Named after the famous Russian plant scientist and explorer. Heads have a beautiful fat flame-like shape. Kernel colour can vary from light gold to dark brown. Delicious eaten as a whole grain. From John Sherck: I spring planted in mid-April and harvested at the end of July. I conducted a large number of spring wheat trials this season and most were failures due to the excessive amounts of rain we had, both in the spring and early summer. Vavilov Wheat was one of 3 that did well with minimal disease issues. The plants are tall (3 1/2 – 4 foot) and had some lodging issues. I have a very small amount of seed to offer from a 25 square foot trial bed. This is a hulless, awnless bread wheat.
