Safety Backup For Our Seeds

RMSA is proposing to build the Rocky Mountain Regional Seed Vault at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden in Ketchum, Idaho.

Our goal for this long-term seed storage facility is to provide secure seed backup as a free service to RMSA Seed Stewards, as well as growers, breeders, and seed savers throughout the Mountain West. In addition, the Seed Vault will serve as an outreach and educational center to share RMSA’s work with visitors.

Since starting the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance, we have discovered some remarkable collections of crop diversity being quietly stewarded by passionate seed savers on their farms and homesteads. These priceless gems are uniquely adapted to thrive in our Rocky Mountain communities. They are our seeds—and they must be protected.

About Seed Stewards

Help Save Seed Diversity—Become a Seed Steward!

The Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance is seeking gardeners and farmers to become Seed Stewards in their communities. Seed Stewards are individuals who are committed to preserving and sharing seed diversity. They may already be skillful seed savers or just beginning to learn about this ancient art and practice. Seed saving is essential for ensuring that diverse and abundant supplies of regionally adapted seeds are securely maintained for the benefit of current and future generations.

Rocky Mountain Heritage Grain Trials Project

You can help rekindle a thriving, localized grain economy in the Rocky Mountain West.

Locally grown grains are the missing component in many regional food systems. The Rocky Mountain Heritage Grain Trials Project aims to revive the production, use, and cultural experience of locally grown heritage grains in our region's communities. Our ultimate goal is to create a vibrant system of farmers, millers, bakers, and brewers throughout the Mountain West who can give new life to ancient grain varieties and ensure this diversity is preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.

Who We Are

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening seed and food security in our region.

Our mission is to assure a diverse and abundant supply of seeds for the Rocky Mountain West through networking, education and helping establish community-based models of seed stewardship.
