Week 5 – Khorasan
What is the ideal climate and preferred growing conditions for your adopted grain? Think about where else this variety could be grown successfully. Try to find out what grains are being grown in that place currently.
The ideal climate for khorasan is a sunnier environment with low humidity. Kamut is grown mainly in the Northern Great Plains of North America and certain parts of Canada. Kamut is thought to originate near the Fertile crescent around the Persian Gulf around Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan, and today Egyptians will grow khorasan in the spring for flatbread. Does anyone have experience growing khorasan or kamut, and if so, where was this?
