Dear Seed School for Farmers Participants,
Happy Monday night! Just a few things as we start off week 3 of classes:
Zoom changed its settings on the 27th, so we have to use a waiting room to let everyone into the meeting manually. I’ll be watching the “Admit” button, but if it takes too long, please text me to let me know you are waiting (928-814-2280). Also, be prepared to possibly reenter the meeting ID (82537889503).
Bill will have office hours TOMORROW and every Tuesday for an hour at 2 pm PT/3 pm MT. Use the same link/meeting ID we use for class: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82537889503. We apologize for any prior confusion about this time and link.
NO cohort discussion groups this week. Keep your questions handy for next week’s sessions.
We’re honored Beata Tsosie will be joining us on Wednesday to discuss cultural considerations in seed saving more. To give her time, we’ll be moving our hands-on germination test to after the scheduled presenters just like we did with the tomato seed saving demonstration. Plan on joining Lee-Ann for the test if you can at 1:10 pm PT/2:10 pm MT. Here is the full, modified schedule for Wednesday:
11:45-Homework questions or comments
12-Check In
12:10-Crossers and Biennials
12:30-Seeds and Food Sovereignty (Special guest: Beata Tsosie)
1:30-Biology & Structure
1:50-Journaling & Wrap
2:10-Germination Test
Homework for next week (#4): prepare for a bean dissection
Lastly, a reminder about this week’s homework assignment:
Reading: More Difficult to Save from Basic Seed Saving
Journal: What seed(s) would you like to incorporate into your farm/garden plan?
Hands-on Activity Prep: Gather seeds and materials for germ test-100 seeds of wheat, barley, beans, etc., paper towels, spray bottle, Ziplock and marker
We look forward to seeing you during office hours and during class. Thanks for your enthusiasm and flexibility!
With Gratitude,
Jackee Alston
