CostCo of Seeds

The only event of its kind in the world, the Great American Seed Up is known as the “CostCo” of seeds and is taking place in Phoenix at North Phoenix Baptist Church, the corner of Bethany and Central, September 27th (5 pm - 9 pm) and the 28th.

On Friday evening at 6pm, Kimber Lanning of Local First AZ will talk about "Building Vibrant and Self-Reliant Communities." Throughout Saturday, Seed Up creators will teach 9 mini-classes ranging from seed laws and container gardening to drip irrigation and seed storage.

The idea of the Seed Up is to get as many seeds into as many home gardens as possible. Then our job is to grow out these wonderful crops with seed from the Seed Up, save the seed and begin to create more resilient food systems with local seeds as the foundation. The diverse selection of seeds, the great people and educational opportunities combine to make this a world-class event that you won’t want to miss!

One Month and a Handful of Spots

rowen_whiteIf you have been thinking about attending Seed School with a Teacher Training Twist at the Posner Center in Denver, we recommend you register now to reserve your seat ASAP. With a little more than a month to go, we are almost at capacity.

We like to keep our classes relatively small in order to give as much individual attention as possible to our students as well as the outstanding community of seed stewards, teachers, professionals and others who join us for this magical mystery tour.

We are pleased to announce that Rowen White from Sierra Seeds, the Indigenous SeedKeepers Network and Chair of the Board of Seed Savers Exchange and Don Tipping founder of Siskiyou Seeds, the Seed Academy and Board Member of RMSA will be presenting with us in Denver at the Posner Center!

RMSA Goes International

grazieThank you so much! The Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance is attending the 8th International Treaty on Plant Genetics for Food and Agriculture in Rome this November to represent your concerns about our precious seeds specifically about seed patenting and benefits sharing. This is a responsibility we do not take lightly and we are excited to have time with global seed stewards working on seed security and justice. RMSA is grateful for and humbled by all the support we received from our seed saving friends and network of local food activists who made it possible for us to attend.

Thank you, we couldn’t do or share this important work without you!

Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance is honored to share the stage with Andrew Kimbrell from the Center for Food Safety. Bill McDorman and Andrew will join forces to generate a “seed revival” on Sunday morning. Also adding tales of adventures near and far, the Seed Huntress Sefra Alexandra will be rounding out the presentation.

After hearing Andrew speak at the RMSA Seed Summit in Santa Fe, Convergence producer Sean-Paul von Ancken was excited to bring this dynamic speaker to Arcosanti.

If you are looking for an insightful and alternative context for where we are in this interesting journey of seed co-opting and ownership, don’t miss Bill, Andrew and Sefra’s October 13th, Sunday morning “seed revival” at Arcosanti.
