Seed Steward Salute: Sherry Manning
There are seed heroes—and then there's Sherry Manning! (Kneeling in front in the photo.) As founder of Friends of ENCA Farm, and former Peace Corp volunteer, Sherry has been working for the past 7 years to help spread seed saving and organic agriculture knowledge among small farmers in the Phillippines. ENCA Farm is a sustainable eco-farm located in Tublay in the northern region of the island country.
Sherry sharpened her seed saving skills through several programs with RMSA (Seed School and Teacher Training) both as a student and teacher and then took those skills back to the Philippines. Last year, she invited RMSA co-founders Bill McDorman and Belle Starr to co-teach a Seed School in the Phillippines for the local farmers and it was a resounding success!
"Organizations like RMSA are the educational backbone of building a grassroots, citizen-led movement that is changing our food system one seed and student at a time." states Sherry.
Sherry is one of our monthly Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance contributors recognizing the value in committing to the sustainability of the organization. For as little as the price of a cup of coffee you can assure the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance continues its important grassroots work. Click here to contribute!
Friends of ENCA Farm is based out of Denver, Co but has a global impact. We are proud to partner with them as they partner with us to benefit our seed saving brothers and sisters around the world. Join them at their annual Nourish event in Denver on October 14th and learn more about their awesome work.
